Brian Gard

President

Brian is the founder and president of CommTac Solutions. He maintains the CTS business model and helps with client training and safety assessments. Brian also serves as the manager of safety and health for a large multi-state charter school company. In this role, he provides support for 87 K-8 public charter schools in nine states. He leads a team that is responsible for emergency planning, health and safety training, and compliance. Brian previously served as the Midwest Director of the National Association of School Safety and Law Enforcement Officers (NASSLEO) and previously served on the board for Safety Summit 100. Brian was named runner-up of the top 10 finalists for the Campus Safety Director of the Year award (Campus Safety).

Previously, Brian spent 12 years with the Grand Rapids Police Department where he served on the special response team, training bureau, and patrol division. He has several hundred hours of instruction to various audiences, including being an adjunct professor at Grand Rapids Community College. He has presented at national school safety conferences. Brian earned his master’s degree in management from Aquinas College and a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Western Michigan University.

John Wittkowski

Operations Coodinator

With more than 18 years of law enforcement, organizational, and instructional skills John Wittkowski knows how to ensure CTS clients receive they training they need. Wittkowski has served in a number of roles within the Grand Rapids Police Department including Police Officer, Acting Lieutenant, and currently Police Sergeant. He has also served as an adjunct professor at both Ferris State University and Grand Rapids Community College. Wittkowski serves as a trainer for a number of GRPD courses and holds a PBT Instructor/Level IV Certification.

As Operations Coordinator, Wittkowski helps with client questions, helps define client needs, schedule trainings, and also serves as a primary CTS trainer.

Wittkowski holds bachelor’s degree in business administration from Western Michigan University, master’s degree in management from Aquinas College, police officer certification from the mid-Michigan Police Academy, and a master’s degree in criminal justice from Michigan State University.
